Knights of Columbus Amateur Radio Nets

I have been pleasantly surprised the past week or so--it appears that our nets are getting some traction, slowly but surely. Last Sunday, Palm Sunday, I thought that I would attempt another 20m net. We usually follow the Saint Maximilian Kolbe Sunday Evening Net, which begins at 2200z and is usually completed prior to 2300z. I try to piggy-back on them, because most of their check-ins are Catholic and many of them are Knights of Columbus.

On Palm Sunday, I was unable to locate the net. I knew that Scott, N0VYU, who is usually Net Control, was out of town and would not be Net Control that evening. Anyhow, at approximately 2315z, I picked a frequency on the 20m band, and announced our net. I received four or five new check-ins and closed the net, but left NetLogger running. A few minutes later, we had another check-in, then another ....I had to re-open the net! By 0030z Monday, one hour and 15 minutes after I originally opened the net, I had 10 check-ins--a record--definitely for the 20m net, and perhaps a record for any of our nets!

Easter Sunday was not so good, with only three check-ins. Our Monday evening 40m net, however ....

On Easter Monday, I was Net Control for our 40m net, and our first check-in was a Knight from Staten Island, NY. He said that he turned on NetLogger and saw us there, while preparing to join the 3905 net. He also said that he will put us in his calendar for Monday nights. Also, I strung what was left of an old dipole, that I had literally run over with the lawn mower years ago, and everybody could hear me. Yay, me!

I realized this morning, Tuesday, April 22, 2025, that I missed a great opportunity--I cold have used our YouTube channel to transmit our nets. If nothing else, I could have advertised it on my Facebook page, gotten some of my Facebook friends to watch it, and perhaps even follow the page. You know darned well I will do my best to get it going by next week.

Let me know if you have any suggestions for our YouTube channel. Drop me a line at NJKCARC@gmail..com

Requiescat in pace, our Holy Father, Pope Francis.

Vivat Jesus and 73,
